Bristol museum celebrates Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery will be hosting a performance of Hello Sailor on Wednesday 2 February at 6.15pm. The event forms part of the programme for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month 2011.

Actor Jay P McWinen from Torrid Star productions presents Hello Sailor, a performance which has been adapted from author Jo Stanley’s book which gave an insight into gay life at sea in the 1950’s and of the lifestyle of Dennis; waiter by day, diva by night.

The performance will be followed by a question and answer session where people can find out the inspiration behind the show, how it was developed and how audiences have reacted to it.

Hello Sailor was first performed as part of the exhibition of the same name at the Maritime Museumin Liverpool. The performance also debued as part of the 2008 europride celebrations (maritime museet) in Stockholm, Sweden.

LGBT History Month takes place every year in February. It celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.
