The Weekend of 7th November will see the first ever UK Leather Pride being held in Bristol.
The event which organisers hope will be the biggest Pride event in the UK dedicated to the leather subculture will offer a large number of events held between Friday 6th and Sunday 8th November 2015.
Organisers behind the event said: “The UK needed a leather pride; Leather Pride needed a home so a small team of leathermen got together and decided to organise a UK Leather Pride. We looked around for a city to host such a great weekend – and we chose Bristol. Bristol’s a quirky city and is well suited to leathermen. The city hosted Bristol Leather Weekend last year which was an outstanding success.”
Several events will take place across the city for the Pride – including a “Leather Speed Date” event and a “Grand Leather Quiz” to raise money for the main Bristol Pride.
In the past three years, the leather community has witnessed Bristol emerge as a centre for leather men, with the establishment of the LeatherWest (the first ever gay leather non-profit Community Interest Company), regular events throughout the year, BLUF Bristol and the Bristol Leather Weekend last year.
The organising team behind UK Leather Pride say, “The UK needed a Leather Pride. It needed a home. We looked around and Bristol was chosen because of the lower costs to organise the weekend, cheaper hotels and an availability of venues close to each other and the availability of a large volunteer base to ensure the weekend festival could be staged. We have taken inspiration from Belgium Leather Pride in Antwerp and using this event as the model for the UK.”
The weekend events will be hosted in the city’s Old Market Quarter, with events taking place over three days in a range of venues all very close to each other. ‘Troopers’ – volunteers who have a good knowledge of the local area – will also be on hand to assist visitors throughout the weekend.
