World AIDS Day 2017

Terrence Higgins Trust’s theme for World AIDS Day 2017 is See Red.

On Friday 1 December, people all over the world will wear a red ribbon with pride, without fear, shame or stigma. On World AIDS Day, the colour red represents solidarity, love, activism and remembrance. The more we See Red, the sooner we will end the HIV epidemic.

Around 101,200 people are living with HIV in the UK and of these, 13% are undiagnosed and do not know they have
the virus. Two in five adults who have HIV in the UK are diagnosed late. Late diagnosis can cause complications and even shorten your life expectancy.

36.7 million people across the world are living with HIV. In some countries, people can struggle to access testing or treatment. This makes living with HIV much more difficult than in the UK.

Local organisations across the west country are holding events to mark and fundraise. Brigstowe have teamed up with Terrence Higgins Trust, Other voluntary organisations, businesses and community groups to bring you a two week long program of events, fundraisers and talks. On 1st December there will be a plaque unveiling at 8-10 West Street in Bristol to honour the sites significance, being the base of firstly The Aled Richards Trust, Then Terrence Higgins Trust.

Between 3pm – 5pm, at the Wills Memorial Building, ‘Narrating HIV/AIDS’ a series of talks looking at HIV/AIDS from a number of different perspectives will take place. Finally, from 5.30pm – 7pm, A vigil will take place at College Green. More details of the Bristol Events can be found here.

In Salisbury, Truth Bar at 5 Bridge Street is celebrating with Lulu Delish and team Truth for a night of awareness and an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV.

Mon. 4th, 11th & 18th December, Information Stand at GP practices in Frome, Shepton Mallet and Wells.
