Sir Elton John is to host a ‘living room’ fund-raising gig to provide entertainment during the coronavirus lockdown.

And some of the world’s hottest stars are joining in, including Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys. The Backstreet Boys, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Tim McGraw will also take part.

They will film themselves performing at home on their own mobile phone or camera. That way they will avoid the risk of exposing themselves or any crew to COVID-19.

Moreover, the stars will use the hour-long concert to pay tribute to health workers on the frontline of fighting coronavirus.

Meanwhile fans will be able to donate to help victims and key workers. The money will go to two charities – Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation.

Elton’s kids sing happy birthday

US network Fox had originally planned to host the iHeart Radio Music Awards on Sunday. But now the lockdown has made that impossible, Elton’s event will fill the slot.

Meanwhile Elton has shared an Instagram video of him enjoying his 73rd birthday on Wednesday.

The star is famous for his lavish parties and rock and roll lifestyle. Stars including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Stevie Wonder attended his 70th birthday in Los Angeles.

But he enjoyed this birthday at a very different pace. Like the rest of the UK, he and his family are currently self-isolating at home to help fight the pandemic. Earlier in the month he revealed they have been playing Snakes and Ladders together to pass the time.

The video shows him in sunglasses and a tracksuit top in front of a cake with the message ‘Happy birthday Daddy’.

Meanwhile you see the backs of his sons Elijah and Zachary, who he shares with husband David Furnish. Together they sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to a beaming Elton.

And his conclusion: ‘Grateful for the best birthday ever with my family.’
