Coming straight off her smash US summertime single, “Put It In Your Pocket,” critically acclaimed songwriter Sonia Leigh is making her reputation as a game changer. She has brought yet another hit to the table with her latest independent release, “When We Are Alone,” which proved an audience favourite at the recent C2C Festival. Cowritten and produced by Danny Myrick (“She’s Country,” Jason Aldean), Leigh says “When We Are Alone” “pushes creative boundaries.”
Leigh brings a fresh, progressive sound to the table. Her relentless spirit is felt in every inflection of her unmistakable drawl. This musical pioneer has blended her many influences into a refreshing, compelling sound all her own. “Her talent is undeniable,” says Chuck Dauphin of MusicNewsNashville. “Sonia Leigh is an artist that sets herself apart from the pack.”
While her sound may extend into various genres, the Country singer has never tried to hide her sexuality within a genre that has had a long history of homophobia – most recently seen in the debate over whether Little Big Town’s single ‘Girl Crush’ is suitable for airplay on mainstream Country stations in the States.
With the attitude that an artist is not able to express themselves without an honesty to their fans, Sonia is part of the new wave of Country artists pushing for sexuality to be seen as part of a person and opposed to a defining feature.
