Countdown to Swindon’s First Pride

The final countdown and last preperations are being made for Swindon’s first pride celebrations which are being held this Saturday in the Town Gardens.

Highlights of the inaugural festival – which is being sponsored by local gay and lesbian nightclub The Pink Rooms, Fyne Times magazine and the Wiltshire Gay Policing Initiative – include a succession of live musical and drag acts.

The ladies from the Sheila’s Wheels adverts will be performing a live set, as will singer Jamie Watson, Hi-NRG disco legend Kelly Wilde and cabaret drag queen Amber Dextrous. Hardcore clubbing fans can also strut their stuff in the Dance Tent provided by the South West’s premier gay and lesbian club night organisers – Decadence.

Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered coalition group based in the town have worked hard to co-ordinate what is hoped will become an annual event. Swindon has a substantial gay community, and it is estimated that gay and lesbian people living in the town number over 5,000.

The 2008 Swindon Pride Festival takes place between 12.00pm-10.30pm in Old Town Gardens in Swindon this Saturday, 16th August. Full details of the line-up, visit the official event website at www.swindonpride.kk5.org
