Bristol Bisons becomes the newest GRFU member
Members of Bristol Bisons RFC the South West’s only inclusive gay team, are celebrating after becoming the newest members of Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union.
Michalis Sanidas, Chair of the Bisons said ” We are delighted that to have been accepted to join the GRFU family as this marks the perfect end to an amazing month for the team and is a testament to the hard work of all our players supporters and volunteers. It is another step towards achieving one of our key aims to strengthen our links with other local teams and to eventually join a local league”
To celebrate their GRFU affiliation, the Bisons are organising a series of events in March. On 19 March which is closing day of the Six Nations tournament, the Bisons are organising a social event for all friends and supporters.
The Six Nations Social Event will take place on Saturday 19th March from 2 o’clock onwards at the Old Market Tavern in Bristol where all Six Nations games will be screened on big screen. There will be also a Dutch auction to raise funds for the team’s trip to Amsterdam for the Union Cup, the aim will be to raise funds for the forthcoming team tour to Amsterdam, where the Bisons will defend their European title at the Union Cup on 3rd-5th June 2011
In addition the team is organising an open day on 27 March for prospective new players. The open day is taking place between 1130 am to 2 pm at the team’s base at Ashley Down RFC in Bonnington Walk, Lockleaze, Bristol.
Rhys Owen, Rugby Manager of the Bisons added: “The open day will be an excellent opportunity to meet the team and take part in a fun filled training session. The session will be open to both absolute beginners and those who may have not played rugby for a while!”
