Beautiful Thing Comes To Swindon

A staging of Jonathan Harvey’s urban fairytale, an old fashioned love story with a fresh and contemporary twist, is coming to Swindon at the end of January.

TS Theatre Productions are bringing the much appreciated, and now almost legendary play to the Swindon Arts Centre on Monday 28 January and Tuesday 29 January 2013.

Beautiful Thing is a story that is very close to our director, Pete Hynds’s, heart. As a gay man from Liverpool, the parallels between Jonathan Harvey’s play and his teenage years really have resonance. The play is an urban fairytale about first love between teenagers Jamie and Ste and reflect the difficulties of coming out in the 90s on a tough London council estate. That’s not to say that the show is in any way hard going. In fact it is beautifully warm and very funny. What else would we expect from the writer of Gimme, Gimme, Gimme? It’s a very accessible and easily watchable show which is guaranteed to blow away those January blues and leave the audience happy and uplifted. And it will present an interesting alternative for the use of peppermint foot lotion….

TS Theatre Productions is a local group that was formed in 2011 and made their debut at The MECA with A Clockwork Orange that November. Their next show was The Pillowman which was performed at The Victoria; a first theatrical performance at a venue perhaps better known for live music. Both of these plays contained somewhat controversial storylines that were a challenge to both the cast and the audience. It is their intention to give our audiences plenty to think about while always delivering top quality performances.

Tickets are priced at £10 or £8 for concessions. The performance starts at 7.30pm

Tickets can be purchased from the Arts Centre Box Office or online.
