Outset Festival Returns To Somerset

Outset Festival 2013 kicks off loud and proud at The Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre on the 8th & 9th of February 2013. This fantastic weekend will celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender performance and community arts.

Events include a cracking hour of stand-up comedy from British Asian and gay stand-up comedian Paul Sinha – also famous from ITV quiz show The Chase, and a hilarious catwalk-cabaret show Polyester Fiesta!, celebrating 70 years of polyester and features Lorraine Bowen’s hit songs.

It also welcomes Pink Triangle Theatre with Show One!, a powerful and punchy look at homophobia in today’s society. A selection of films will be screened in its cinema as well.

Outset began life in 2011. Driven by theatre maker and teacher Louise Barrett the festival found its home at The Brewhouse when the forward thinking artisic director Robert Miles saw the potential and the importance of such a festival in the heart of the South West region.

Outset aims to create new opportunities for visibility and affirmation in relation to existing and emerging lesbian, gay and transgender artists and theatrical works. It now aspires to be an annual event produced by The Brewhouse and coordinated by Louise so that Somerset can celebrate the contribution of LGBT people to theatre, past, present, locally, regionally and nationally.
