Support Sought For Swindon & Wiltshire Pride
In just 6 years Swindon & Wiltshire Pride has become one of the UK’s leading festivals, and is the highlight in the Swindon & Wiltshire Summer Event calendar. The organisers are now looking for your help to make it bigger and better.
Pride events are a positive stance against discrimination and violence towards Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans (LGBT) Individuals. The event helps to build a social bridge between the LGBT community and the wider community by coming together and enjoying a colourful day of music, entertainment, education and most of all fun.
Last year’s event saw over 7,000 attend the festival which is held in the Town Gardens, where a variety of acts kept them entertained throughout the day including the Headline act “Basshunter”.
Ben Reeves, chairman of Swindon and Wiltshire Pride told the Swindon Advertiser – “We are seeing more and more families coming along to enjoy the day. We want to be able to cater for all our visitors on the day and have added this year for the first time a dedicated family area where you will be able to enjoy face painting and games.”
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, August 10, and will start with a parade which will take a route through Old Town before making it’s way to the Town Gardens.
Lydia May, Swindon and Wiltshire Pride parade coordinator, said: “This is my first year on the committee. I volunteered on the day last year and had so much fun I wanted more of an active role.”
