New Website Launched For Sexual Health In Swindon

A new website has been launched offering free advice on sexual health to those in the Swindon area.

The Great Western Hospital NHS Trust hopes that the site will make it easy for local residents to find out about the range of services that the Trust offer.

Dr Guy Rooney, Medical Director and Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV for the Trust, said: “We have excellent services around Swindon offering testing, treatment and advice and they are all free and completely confidential. With this fantastic new website, you can now find out about all of our clinics, services and opening times in one place.

“We are a friendly and professional team and can help with contraception, free condoms, STI testing, HIV treatment and support and sex and relationship advice.”

Dr Rooney continued : “Whatever your age or background, it’s just as important to look after your sexual health, as it is any other aspect of your health. We decided on the ‘Love Life!’ name because we wanted to promote the fact that looking after your sexual health is a positive and healthy thing to do.”

As well as the website, a new dedicated telephone service has been set up which will allow people to easily make appointments and get hold of urgent advice quickly by calling (01793) 604038.

Members of the Sexual Health team from the Great Western Hospital recently attended Swindon Pride to spread the message about the new website and the services on offer and also took part in several events as part of Sexual Health Week.

Sexual Health in the town was left with a void when the dedicated charity Men’ Sexual Health closed at the end of February due to lack of available funding.

Cllr Brian Mattock, Swindon Borough Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We are committed to further improving the sexual health of residents in the Borough and the Swindon Sexual Health Week is another great opportunity to raise awareness of relevant issues and signpost people to help. I encourage everyone to get involved and make the most of the support on offer.”

The website provides visitors with details of clinics in both Carfax Street, and the Great Western Hospital, how to get free Condoms, and how to book your Sexual Health MOT which is recommended at least once a year, or when you meet a new sexual partner.
