EACH Receives Funding Towards Youth Programme
EACH has received £7000 from The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation towards its Youth Volunteering Programme 2015.
The StandUp Foundation was established by rugby star Ben Cohen to raise awareness of the long-term, damaging effects of bullying and to raise funds to support those doing real-world work to stop it.
EACH is the multi award-winning charity based in Bristol which works to affirm the lives of LGBT people and reduce discrimination experienced because of sexual orientation or gender identity. Some of the services that they provide include creating resources to help schools, organisations and employers create a safer and more equal work or study environment for LGBT people of all ages and providing training and consultancy to help national or regional agencies better understand legislation and the law regarding sexual orientation and gender identity matters and effect change at both a strategic and policy level
Each’s Youth Volunteering Programme provides opportunities for young people across Avon and Somerset to challenge homophobic, transphobic and cyber bullying. Young people aged 13 – 24 participate in a range of exciting activities and events providing opportunities to discuss prejudice-based bullying in a safe and non-judgemental environment. Here they can meet new people and devise youth-led awareness campaigns that promote affirming representations of gay and transgender lives.
With support from the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, EACH will continue to support these young people and reach out to yet more young volunteers to deliver anti-bullying campaigns throughout 2015.
Following a recent session of the programme, one of the participants – Jack, aged 15, said “I feel like I’ve had a chance to talk about my experiences. I’d like to see the campaign happen and instead of complaining all the time actually do something to stop homophobia”
