Swindon’s Mailcoach Calls Time

Swindon’s LGBT pub, The Mailcoach, has closed leaving the town without a dedicated LGBT venue.
The venue closed it doors for the final time on January 6th, with a Facebook posting confirming the news.
The message, posted by Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, stated –
“The time has come to call last orders at The Mailcoach. SW Pride would like to say a massive thank you to all involved for supporting Pride over the years. It is indeed a sad day to see Swindon’s only LGBT pub close it doors to the community. So let’s say farewell in Pride style and go out with a biggest party in Town.
Message from The Mailcoach team: Tonight will be last orders as we say goodbye to Martin Tibs Lee Lisa and Bea. And to you all our customers over the passed 7 years.
It is not yet known of the future plans for the venue by owners, Enterprise Inns.
The closure follows the departure of the long standing previous landlord, Martin Jones in August 2017 after a 7 year long tenure.
A spokesman from Enterprise at the time dispelled any closure fears stating “We are in talks with our publican at the moment regarding his future at the pub. However, we aim to keep open and trading the town’s only LGBTQ pub.”
The pub previously closed back in 2010, but re-opened, outstaying other clubs and pubs which opened elsewhere in the town.
The venue was also a centrepoint for many fundraising events and entertainment acts for the Swindon & Wiltshire Pride event, with many fearing for the continued success of the event following the pubs closure.
