Bristol’s Gin Palace Announces Closure

Popular Bristol Venue, The Gin Palace based in Old Market, has announced it’s closure.

Posting on the venue’s Facebook page the announcement stated

It is with deepest regret and after much deliberation, that I have to announce that The Gin Palace will be closing. Dave and I have decided it’s time to find a new beginning, a new challenge and to be closer to the family we love so much.

But before I do go I would like to say a Huge Thanks to all of the Drag Queens who have graced the stage at The Gin Palace. A Huge Thanks to everybody who has worked with me serving all of the customers.

The announcement revealed that the venue will be due to close on Saturday 17th March and went on to thank all those customers who frequented the bar during the last four years of the current ownership.

The Palace’s closure follows that of Swindon’s Mailcoach earlier this year, and that of another Old Market venue, The Retreat in 2016.

The Palace is the resident home to several community groups such as South West Rubber Men and Puppy Palace, with no news yet of any potential new venues for these.

The closure of The Palace will leave just The Old Market Tavern and Bristol Bear Bar still trading in what was heralded “The Gay Village” in recent years.

However, located in nearby Alfred Street, an “Eagle” bar has opened within the DareTo complex, based on the popular franchise found in Cardiff and Manchester.
