Transgender model from Nepal stars in Calvin Klein underwear ad
Transgender Nepali model Anjali Lama is starring in Calvin Klein’s advertising campaign.
The ‘My Statement. #MyCalvins’ campaign was launched on International Women’s Day in Asia.
It features 10 groundbreaking women from the region. It also includes Japanese filmmaker Shiori Ito and Chinese photographer Tong Meng.

Born in Nepal, Lama came out as transgender in 2005 after she moved to Kathmandu from her small farming village.
In 2009, she landed the cover of Nepal’s leading magazine Voice of Women.
In 2017, Lama became the first transgender model to appear at an Indian fashion week event when she walked in Monisha Jaising’s opening show.
Since then she has appeared for regional designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh and Gaurav Gupta.
Nepal is one of the most progressive countries for transgender rights in South Asia.
In 2007, Nepal’s Supreme Court ruled people could choose their own gender.
What’s more, in 2015 the country began issuing passports with a third gender identity.
