Sailors told to ‘clap like you’re at a strip club’ upon visit from Mike Pence
Vice President Mike Pence

A group of sailors in the United States Navy were told to ‘clap like you’re at a strip club’ for Mike Pence as he delivered a speech on 30 April.

What happened?

Pence spoke to the sailors as the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman was docked at the Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia.

Journalist Brendan Ponton of WTKR-TV in Norfolk attended the event. He Tweeted about the request right before the speech began.

While the purpose was to make Pence look good in front of the media, it’s a bit ironic that the strip club analogy was used, considering Pence’s refusal to be alone with a woman who is not his wife. In addition, a group of uniformed men clapping for Pence as if he were a stripper seems to be in contradiction with Pence’s anti-LGBTI beliefs.
