Queer Eye will get a UK version if Bobby Berk has anything to do with it

Queer Eye star Bobby Berk has said he wants to film the show in the UK – and that he hopes to stick with the series long term.

Ahead of filming the sixth series of the reality TV makeover show, Bobby Berk also said he was pleased to show kids it’s ok to experiment with gender.

Berk told Digital Spy: ‘I never thought I’d be able to set an example or be a role model in this way.

‘But to be able to show little boys and little girls that it’s OK to play with gender… It’s been so implanted in our society. It’s great to be able to kind of break that.’

‘I would love to go overseas again’

Meanwhile he also named the UK as his destination of choice for a future overseas version of Queer Eye.

He said: ‘As far as plans for similar specials [abroad] – I hope so, but honestly, I have no idea.

‘We’re often the last ones to know, because we’re often the most opinionated. So they keep us out of it until they have to hear our opinions [laughs]… But working in Japan and Australia, you know, was great.

‘I would definitely love to go overseas again. I would love to do a UK edition.’

What do Queer Eye’s other stars think?

So could Queer Eye really come to Britain?

Last November, Queer Eye star Karamo Brown also said he would like to film Queer Eye in the country.

He told Sky News: ‘Oh my gosh, we’d love to come to the UK. Tan France, our Tanny, is from the UK and we go there with him to visit and we’re like, we want to spend a couple of months there. So can we start a petition right now?

‘I’m with it, we’re all with it. We’re ready.’

At the time, Brown diplomatically hinted British pople may not need much Queer Eye help. He said ‘Brits are some of the most fashionable and most charismatic and amazing people in the world’. However he did joke that Queer Eye could help the country tackle its messy Brexit.

However Tan France, the show’s British fashion expert, could be the most reluctant of the show’s five stars to film in the UK.

In February he told the UK’s Grazia that racism had driven him away from Britain.

He said: ‘I suffered so much racism here and it’s just not something I want to put myself through.

‘I love this country, I love what it potentially represents, but I just think that until they solve this problem or move forward with it, where you just are not attacked every day, I’m not willing to be here.’

In it for the long haul

Meanwhile, Bobby Berk, who is the shows design expert, has confirmed he remains committed to Queer Eye.

Berk, 38, who lives in Los Angeles with his husband, Dewey Do, told Digital Spy:

‘I am definitely in it for the long haul. I am in it for as long as Netflix want us to keep going, you know?

‘I probably might call it a day in like 10 years. I think at that point, we would just be exhausted [laughs].

‘But no, I’m definitely in it for as long as fans keep loving us, and keep wanting us to do it.’
