English actor Ben Aldridge has come out as a ‘proud’ member of the LGBT+ community.

The 34-year-old is most famous for his role as ‘Arsehole Guy’ in comedy series Fleabag.

He also starred as Captain Charles James in the BBC military drama Our Girl. And he was Antoine of Navarre on The CW’s historical romantic drama Reign between 2014 and 2017.

At the moment he is starring in the US Batman prequel series Pennyworth. He plays Batman’s father, Thomas Wayne.

But the post on Saturday (27 June) on Instagram was the first time he’d spoken publicly about his sexuality.

He wrote: ‘The journey to pride was a long one for me.

‘I love the LGBTQ+ community and am incredibly proud and thankful to be a part of it. So much won. So much more to fight for.’

‘Proud of you. And love you buddy’

Aldridge accompanied his posts with vintage pictures of LGBT+ protests.

They included an image of one of the first Prides in the UK in 1972, held by the Gay Liberation Front which is 50 years old this year.

Moreover, he also showed a photo of Stonewall Riots heroes Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera from New York.

But the series of images also includes a picture of him giving another man a kiss on the cheek.

Meanwhile, the final image in his post simply says ‘Choose Love’ printed in the colours of the LGBT+ Progress Pride Flag.

Several of his acting colleagues have shown their support. Aldridge’s co-star from Our Girl, Michelle Keegan, reacted to the post with a heart emoji. And Irish actor Rory Fleck Byrne wrote: ‘Proud of you. And love you buddy.’

While best known for his TV roles, Aldridge, from Exeter, southwest England, trained with the National Youth Theatre and had a number of stage roles in his early career.
